Mr Peter Fryer (Pete)
Ex RAF Sergeant Driver to Air Chief Marshall Sir George Mills
Peter joined up for National service in the RAF and following initial training signed up for a further term. He served in Bomber Command, Fontainebleau, Malaya (Malaysia) and Washington DC. He retired as a Sergeant VIP driver and in his last nine years drove Air Chief Marshall Sir George Mills while at Fontainebleau and went with him to Washington. Pete married Ruth in 1962 and had two children (A Daughter who died in 2010 aged 46 and a Son.) Pete became a driving instructor in Bordon, Hampshire then joined The School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and became a qualified testing officer Later going on to Management. He also built a car with students at the school.
Whilst there organised “Lorry Driver of the Year “Competition for several years.
When Driver Training was move to Yorkshire Pete retired early as he was reluctant to move away
from his town and home. In retirement he enjoyed caravanning which he took to earlier in his life and travelled extensively in England. He also travelled round the world. (probably not in his Caravan)
Pete died at home in his sleep in September 2020. May he rest in peace.
He is survived by Ruth and their Son.
